Clearly, the road ahead is full of challenges for independent optometry. We face pressures similar to other industries that are confronted by mass retailer competition. We must adapt to changes if we are to sustain the independent optometric industry in this country. We must find ways to increase our value, relevance and trust with our patients – and market ourselves as the better choice – against a backdrop of changing customer purchase trends.
Most of all, we can neither be complacent nor continue business as usual. We’ll need to look for new solutions and ideas to propel independent optometry forward for present and future generations of independent eyecare practitioners. We must think creatively and challenge ourselves as never before.
